Minimum wage update and residency processes : The Portuguese Government has decided to increase the Guaranteed Minimum Monthly Remuneration to €760.00 (seven hundred and sixty euros) with effect from 1 January 2023. This increase will have an impact on the processes for obtaining residence visas and residence permits. In this sense, going forward, we will start considering the new proposed value as a reference.

In the context of applications for residence visas, in particular D7 Visas, the minimum established from now on, both for the monthly amount of passive income and for active income will then be €760.00.

With regard to proof of means of subsistence in Portugal, which applies to visa processes and processes for obtaining a residence permit, the current monthly minimum wage must be taken into account for a period of one year.

Thus, based on article 11 of Law no. 23/2007, of July 4th and with the provisions of Ordinance no. 1563/2007, of December 11th, the following guidelines are a result:

  1. Main applicant: €760.00 x 12 (months) = €9,120.00 (nine thousand one hundred and twenty euros);
  2. Adult family member (for example: husband/wife, father/mother or children over 18 years old): 50% of the above-mentioned total amount must be included, that is, €4,560.00 (four thousand five hundred and sixty euros);
  3. Minor family member (for example: children): 30% of the above-mentioned total amount must be included, that is, €2,736.00 (two thousand seven hundred and thirty-six euros).

Moreover, we remind you that the amounts indicated here must be transferred to a Portuguese bank account, so that they are immediately available in Portugal.

Finally, we point out the importance of this update, which has a strong impact on the amounts that establish the parameters according to which residency processes in Portugal are guided.
