A new Golden Visa regime comes into force at the beginning of 2022, and some potential investors are yet unfamiliar with the changes to the program’s most popular route: property acquisition.

Beforehand, it is important to highlight that next year rules do not increase the minimum investment amount. The change actually regards location restriction for residential properties (dedicated to dwelling use).

In short, acquiring non-residential property anywhere in Portugal remains eligible, whilst for residential property, the investment has to be made in designated interior territories* of Portugal, or Autonomous Regions of Azores and Madeira.
